Ed Schmid has been working with hot glass since 1984. While in grad-school (he received his M.F.A. from Ohio State University in 1990), Ed enjoyed teaching the beginning students. Seeing a need to write down what was being taught, he wrote his first book, “Ed’s Big Handbook of Glassblowing” (sorry, no longer in print!) in 1993.

Edward T. Schmid's everything you should have learned in school but didn't book'. Advanced Glassworking Techniques takes you from the basics through special procedures with step-by-step instructions and numerous drawings. The hand drawn illustrations guide the reader into this glassblowing reference manual that covers basics, tools, color, Venetian-style techniques, solidworking, moldblowing and other special techniques.

In 1997, Ed released “Advanced Glass working Techniques”. In 1998, “Handbook” evolved into Ed’s current book, “Beginning Glassblowing”. In 2006, Ed released his latest, “The Glassworker’s Bathroom Reader”, a funny collection of the trials and tribulations of the life of glassworkers.
